Welcome to OddClipsThis is a portal to various collections of interesting text clips, from natural disasters to haiku, historical notes and weird science. You can browse clips here, or get a free account and have the clips appear on your own website. Note: this is the work of a single author who has been collecting these odd bits & pieces since before there was an Internet. I was inspired by Charles Fort, but I also enjoy the lesser-known bits from science, and developed a habit of marking the best lines and key moments of fiction, too. This service is being provided for free, but there will be some small ads for my other work, which I think you will also find interesting. My website is here. All clips come from sources which are clearly public domain, or are used by permission of their authors, or used in the spirit of "fair use" (a.k.a. free advertising). Others are original text by the compiler, or authors invited to contribute. Latest clip ...OddClips, Topic: Folklore. From myth to nothing There is something more than monotony in the theory which 'resolves most of our old romances into a series of remarks about the weather.' by Benjamin Taylor, Storyology: essays in folk-lore, sea-lore, and plant-lore (1900), LINK, p.4, quote is from Andrew Lang | |
